  1. Powerful. I ponder if Jephthah would have fulfilled his vow had a son come to greet him. Women in tribal society were property with no rights and easily disposed of for sacrifice or wealth. Not unlike blacks in American slavery. Although I regard both the Abraham story and this one as ledgends, one confirms the sacredness of life and the other the lives that are dismissed, unimportant, dispensed with. Therein lies the tragedy of 2020 + and where my need to both grieve and act justly. Thanks for inspiring my pondering.
