A PRAYER FOR THE ELECTION

by Debbie Harmon Ferry

Lord, you know this is a time of great anxiety for many in this community and in this country. It feels like there is much at stake this week and people are worried. Your Word says to be anxious for nothing, but in everything to come to You; I ask that you provide peace and comfort to the worried hearts of this country right now. Relieve their anxiety by helping them to focus on You and your will. Help those who feel anxious to instead feel Your presence. Calm our fears and grant us peace this week.

Whatever the outcomes this week, remind us to be gracious, Lord. Let this be a time of unity and healing and not a season of division. May each of us in the United States soften our hearts with kindness that we may listen to one another with respect, express our thoughts with humble clarity, and always seek the good in the other as we strive to form a more perfect union.

And if it all seems too much for us, Lord, help us focus on and be grateful for those things that bring us joy – even small things like the beautiful weather, a hand to hold, homemade meals, and the laughter of a child. And though elections and politics may be bigger than those things, your love is bigger than politics.

Amen.
