Worship at FBC:
A Place
for You

Worship has been defined as the 'response of the people to the movement of God' in their lives. At its best, worship invites us into the unfolding mystery of God, to listen and talk with God and give our lives to God who empowers us to do the work of Christ in the world.

Each Sunday worship is developed around a four- fold worship which reflects the style of the earliest Christians. First 'We Gather' with prelude music, news of the community, greeting one another, songs that open us to God, opening prayer and a story for the children. Second we 'Open to the Word' through readings from the Scripture and proclamation of the Word by our pastor. Third is 'Responding to the Word' as we respond to the good news with song, offertory and prayers from the community and for the world. Fourth we 'Go Forth' with hope and joy with a song and blessing.

Rituals of worship include Baptism for those who make a profession of faith through the ancient act of immersion.  Communion is offered the first Sunday of the month where we remember Jesus' last Supper with his disciples and as we open ourselves to the mystery of God's presence. Communion includes a Ritual of Anointing and Healing where the pastor offers a one on one opportunity of anointing and prayer of healing for oneself, others, the world. Anointing is rooted in the tradition of the Hebrew and New Testament scripture.

Worship at FBC is participatory, we welcome participants of the church of all ages, to serve through reading of scripture, offering prayer, sharing gift of music (instrumental and vocal), liturgical dance, art, drama, sharing testimony, tech team (sound, projector, video), ushering and greeting. Contact our pastor, music ministry coordinator or church office if you'd like to share in worship. Twice a month, worship leadership is provided at the 11 a.m. by youth and children of the church.

Two worship opportunities:  September - June we offer two track worship with contemplative worship at 8:45 a.m. This worship has a contemplative feel that invites reflection. Music is eclectic drawing upon our rich tradition of church music.  Our 11 a.m. worship is our Celebrative service with a relaxed, informal upbeat feel. Each week our elementary age and younger children are involved in the first 15 minutes of worship with a special children's story (which adults enjoy listening in on!). Youth regularly share their gifts. Music is led by our praise team and reflects an eclectic mix of contemporary and world music. During the summer we have one worship at 10 a.m. with a blending of the best in contemporary and traditional music.

Liturgical Seasons. At FBC we move in rhythm with the seasons of the early Christians. Advent prepares us for Christmas, Epiphany opens us the presence of Jesus, Lent prepares us for the joy of Easter, Pentecost reminds us to look for the Holy Spirit at work in our lives. Beautiful banners in our sanctuary offer distinct colors and art work for each season in the life of our church. Our focus on seasons helps us be more attentive to the work of God in and around us.
