Church Board Notes – Feb. 17, 2016

The February Church Board meeting began with a discussion of the Safe Families for Children program and the possibilities for participation by First Baptist.  Erika, Susan Chambers, and Tai James attended the community informational meeting and brought additional details to the board.  The Mission Education Team will be exploring ways of informing the congregation about the program and discerning how we might become involved.

Pastor Erika shared plans for Lent and Easter with the board.  We heard about the sermon series on Job and Mark focusing on the theme “The Space Between” and special plans for Good Friday, Holy Saturday, and Easter.  More details can be found in the Tidings article.

The board planned a formal thank you for the Children and Youth interims, Wendy Heston and Geneva Foster-Ward.  They are completing their agreed upon interim time at the end of February. We are truly grateful for the good work they have done with our children and youth.

We are looking forward to candidate visits with 2 finalists for the Children and Youth Ministries positon.  The search team will be contacting children, youth and their families soon with details.

In other business, the board authorized the formation of the nominating committee to fill positions on the church board.   Positions for which the committee will be seeking nominations include: moderator, council chair for Administration, council chair for Christian Education, and 2 at-large positions.  If you are interested in or wish to suggest someone to serve in any of these positions, please contact Cheryl Hockaday, Peggi Lilly, or any member of the Church Board.

In reports from the council chairs the board heard the highlights of the ministries of all the teams active within the church.  Many are mentioned elsewhere in the Tidings and are shared through the weekly Happenings emails.   One item of particular note is the launching of Delightful Dinners with nearly 70 participants.  If you missed out on signing up, contact JP or Peggi, there may still be a space for you.

Seeking to serve faithfully-
