Advent is all about holding your breath. It’s all about the promise of what’s to come – that unexpected in-breaking that will change the world as we know it. We talk about it; we read about it; we sing about it; we count down the days… We wait for it. We’re told that patience is a virtue. There’s wisdom in that, of course. And yet – there are some things in our world, some things in our own lives, that just cannot wait. There is what the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. once referred to as “the fierce urgency of now” also confronting us daily, a world that demands our engagement, a world that calls forth a response from us.
This Advent, we’ll consider the time-honored traditions of anticipation and expectation – alongside the truths that hope, peace, joy, and love cannot wait.
