Missions is the sharing of God's love in practical ways... on both a local and global level. We take to heart the teachings of Jesus in Matthew 25: 31-46: "Whatever you do unto these the least of my sisters and brothers, you do unto me." Here Jesus reminds us that when we offer a cup of water, when we provide housing for the homeless, when we speak out against systemic injustice and work for peace...when we do so, we are entering into deep communion with Jesus and with our neighbors.
FBC also takes seriously the importance of giving financial support to local and global projects affiliated with our American Baptist mission partners as well as local mission opportunities. In 2007 FBC gave $70,464 to various mission related ministries local and global. See link for full listing of our total mission giving in 2008. FBC provides specific financial support to missionaries in Congo, Costa Rica, Mexico, Nicaragua.
Here at FBC we strive to offer practical expressions of love in the name of Jesus.
Recent mission projects at FBC include:
Youth Mexico Mission (building five homes in five days);
Quilts for CASA (for children going through the court system);
Apostle Build Habitat for Humanity House (built home with six other congregations);
Saint Barnabas Soup Kitchen (monthly kitchen team);
Nicaragua Mission Team (built clinic);
This March 70 folk from FBC participated in small group study during Lent as we read Mountains Beyond Mountains by Tracy Kidder. Book focused on providing health care in Haiti and challenged each of us to do what we can, as the Spirit leads. All this is but a partial list of a wide range of mission ministry that takes place!
If interested in participating in or starting a mission project, or if you have a question, email or phone the church office.
